Skyland Trail, a nonprofit mental health residential treatment program for adults and adolescents in Atlanta, is seeking an Adolescent Residential Counselor PRN
Scope: To provide supervision, education, training and various support services to the clients and clinical staff of the Adolescent Program of Skyland Trail.
1st Shift 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 2nd Shift 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm, 3rd shift position 11:00 pm - 7:30 am
Duties:

  • Provide clinical, residential, program support and supervision to clients in the Residential, Adolescent Program.
  • Monitor and document clients behavior, location, progress and communicate any needs or concerns to clinical team. Utilize staff shift log, document according to policy requirements pertinent information to other staff.
  • Provide shift change summary of each resident to Director of Residential Services and incoming shift staff.
  • Document pertinent information re: resiliency goals, behavioral concerns, needs and/or progress on shift change report and communicate to clinical team.
  • Complete Activities of Daily Living assessments: identify strengths and weaknesses to be included in wellness/resiliency plans.
  • Instructs and provides support to clients in activities of daily living, interpersonal, and socialization skills.
  • Completes Incident report per policies.
  • Ensures that clients maintain their rooms and personal belongings in a safe, neat, and sanitary manner by completing room checks bi-weekly; provides training/instructions; assists clients with room cleanings as needed through coaching and identify areas to be included in wellness/resiliency plans.
  • Transports and supervises clients during planned community activities, scheduled physicians appointments, laboratory appointments, and other locations off-campus. Responsible for driving in a safe and responsible manner always obeying all traffic laws. Responsible for monitoring and reporting maintenance needs of the van, (i.e. brake work, oil changes, etc.). Ensures that the van maintains a safe level of gasoline and motor oil; performs van safety checks.
  • Conduct assigned residential groups and document based on written curriculum for each group. Facilitate evening/weekend client activities and social programming.
  • Provide support and direction to residents during client-led community meetings.
  • Co-facilitate group therapy and family therapy with lead clinicians when requested.
  • Ensures that the clients are always following safety procedures and program rules.
  • Conducts Emergency preparedness procedures per policies.
  • Ensures that the facility is always maintained according to standards as dictated by accrediting/licensing bodies. (Office of Regulatory Services, Joint Commission, RCCL).
  • Ensures that the facility maintains food items, supplies, and other items as necessary for the continuity of the program (Provide Director of Residential Services needs list in writing in time to complete approval cycle before supplies are exhausted and purchase items when approved).
  • Assists in crisis situations in compliance with crisis protocol and the crisis communication plan.
  • Ensures that the telephone is answered at all times; when away from the office, use the portable telephone.
  • Provides consistently, superior clinical care and customer service to all clients and families.
  • Complete a minimum of 24 hours of related training and education per year.

Competencies: This position will demonstrate competencies and/or certifications in the following areas:

  • CPI Certification and Crisis Management skills
  • Group development skills
  • Excellent customer services skills
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures for fire, disaster and unplanned incidents
  • Clinical and Residential documentation skills
  • Prior experience working with adolescents and families in a clinical setting.
  • Approved Driving history
  • Knowledge of adolescent development, and clinical diagnoses, specifically, Anxiety, OCD, and Mood Disorders.
  • Knowledge of various treatment interventions and modalities used in individual, group and family therapy.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in related field, (i.e. Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, etc.) and/or (2) years of clinical experience in the mental health field.
  • Preferred Qualifications- Masters Degree in a related field (i.e., Counseling, Social Work, Education, Psychology, etc.)
  • Licensed Clinician, License-eligible clinician or working towards clinical licensure.
