Job Description
Summary

The Center Administrator serves as the administrative leader and senior management advisor to the Center Director. The primary responsibilities of this position are to generate, manage, and interpret strategic information; provide financial management and accountability for all Center resources; and provide administrative infrastructure for faculty, staff, and trainees. These responsibilities cover each of the Center’s primary missions of education, research, and clinical ethics. The Center Administrator is responsible for all administrative operations of the Center, including finance, clinical and research administration, strategic planning, academic and faculty affairs, human resources, compliance, facilities, and information systems for the Center.


This position is critical to the Center’s long-term success and includes leadership and active participation in strategic planning activities for the Center. Whether directly performed, delegated, or delivered by affiliate partners, all Center operations are the responsibility of the Center Administrator.


This role is dynamic, providing administrative leadership in multiple BCM entities beyond the Center, including the College and affiliated organizations. In addition, this leadership role helps to maintain BCM’s values by creating a culture of professionalism, an effective learning environment for all, and a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The Center Administrator reports to the Center Director and Chief Operating Officer of the College. This position is eligible for an annual performance-based bonus.

The Center for Medical Ethics and Health Policy at Baylor College of Medicine conducts cutting-edge multidisciplinary research on perennial and emerging ethical issues arising in clinical practice and in biomedical research in a changing healthcare environment. This research informs the Center’s teaching, clinical practice, and contributions to the development of health and science policy at the local, national, and international levels. The Center comprises 20 primary faculty members, 34 secondary faculty, 25 scholars, and over 40 administrative, research, and clinical ethics staff, located on the main Baylor Campus.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree in business, healthcare administration or a related field strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience, including managing a team of professionals and managers.

Preferred Qualifications

While many competencies, skills, and knowledge are critical to the success of the role, the following are examples of notable aptitudes that must be demonstrated:

  • Strong leadership skills and ability to take ownership for the Center and to gain the confidence of faculty, staff, leaders, colleagues, etc.
  • Highly proficient financial skills including budgeting, financial analysis, forecasting, and general accounting.
  • Solid strategic planning skills including the development of plans for new initiatives, operational and business planning, and long-term strategy.
  • Demonstrated experience in research administration or grants management preferred.
