Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Division of Addictions Psychiatry is to advance research, education, and clinical care for patients with addictions.
Chief Purpose of this position:
We invite candidates to apply for addictions physician position. This position will provide addiction services to patients at VCUHS outpatient clinic, inpatient consult service, and emergency department bridge clinic; will teach addiction psychiatry/medicine to residents, fellows, and others interested in learning more about addiction medicine/psychiatry; and will be expected to participate in our biweekly Addictions Scientific Meeting.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching and Administration:
This educational effort shall include medical students, residents, fellows, and colleagues interested in addictions medicine/psychiatry and other colleagues where appropriate. Teaching responsibilities shall include preparation and presentation of instructional materials, lectures, evaluative materials, and testing. These responsibilities will also include maintenance of personal professional skills through continuing education, advising, mentoring trainees, and attending Grand Rounds.
Clinical:
Providing clinical addictions services to overdose patients presenting in Emergency Department, to hospital admitted patients who are diagnosed with a substance use disorder, and to patients seen in our outpatient substance use disorder treatment clinic.
Work effort distribution is subject to change based on clinical need and research funding.
Required Qualifications:
- U.S. medical degree or equivalent (M.D. or D.O.)
- Virginia license/licensure-eligible
- DEA licensure, including waiver for buprenorphine
- Post-doctoral credentialing in addiction medicine or addiction psychiatry
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU
- Demonstrated history of working with patients with addictions
