Job Description
Overview: FutureCare Canton Harbor is situated in the heart of Baltimore’s popular and trendy Canton neighborhood. Offering breathtaking waterfront views from both inside the facility and out, Canton Harbor is located just three minutes from the I-95 corridor, and is easily accessible for commuters and neighborhood residents alike is looking for Part Time Activities Assistant to join the team. Assist the Activities Director in the organization, development and implementation of the facility activity program. Is responsibility of the facility Activities Director. To assist the Director in providing entertainment, inter-communication, socialization, exercise, relaxation and opportunities for creative and religious expression. The influence of the Activities Assistant will be facility wide. The Activities Assistant will be directly responsible to the Activities Director.Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following tasks and assignments:
1. Activities Program:
  • Work under the direction of the Activities Director.
  • Assist with many activity programs held daily, to improve the quality of life through promotion of physical, mental and spiritual well being. Types of programming to include: intellectual, religious, large motor skills, small motor skills, exercise, educational intergenerational, musical and social. Therapies provided include validation, remotivation, sensory stimulation and reality orientation.
  • Assist in making daily announcements for R.O., information, weather, resident’s/staff birthday, etc.
  • Assist with fulfilling the sensory needs of those bedridden as well as LYFE particpates
  • Assist in planning the monthly calendar of activities and suggest ideas for future planning.
  • Communicate with Activities director regarding daily problems, concerns and issues dealing with resident’s behavior.

2. Volunteers
  • Assist volunteers with duties assigned by Director of Volunteers.
  • Work with volunteers during activities.
  • Orient and supervise volunteers along with Director.

3. Documentation:
  • Visit new resident, introduce self, assess for activity preferences and capabilities, tour facility or floor, if possible, include holistic approach, talking to families, reading medical and psychological history.
  • Document attendance to activities and complete individual participation records.
  • Attend care plan when assigned.
  • Document inventory of supplies.

4. Community Contacts:
  • Assist and participate with trips out of facility.
  • Assist in recruiting and/or communicating with persons from the community who visit the facility.

5. Budgeting:
  • Recommends items to be purchased.
  • Adheres to the budget.

6. Administrative Duties:
  • Act as representative of the Department in the absence of the Director.
  • To attend administrative meetings as designated.
  • Cooperate with other staff members in conducting events.
  • Abides by the standards identified in FutureCare’s Statement of Corporate Ethics and the Corporate Compliance Plan.

7. Safety:
  • Reports any malfunctioning equipment to proper department.
  • Reports any observed hazards to proper department.
Qualifications:
  • The applicant will be a high school graduate or equivalent with a desire to work with the elderly or disabled.
  • Ability in arts and crafts and/or music desirable.
  • Ability to handle emotional and behavioral disturbances.
  • Ability to be vivacious and patient in interactions with residents.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays and evenings.
