ABOUT THE POSITION
CLC is seeking a talented, confident, and organized Accounting Manager to join our growing team in our Monterey Park headquarters. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Accounting manager will direct and organize all general accounting and payroll activities and lead a team of three (3) accounting staff members.
KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Accounting and Reporting
- Develop and maintain financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, account receivable, grant management, petty cash and ensure compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures
- Administer month-end closing, review budget reports and resolve budget variances in a timely manner
- Review monthly reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including taking corrective actions, if necessary
- Review the gifts and donations reconciliation
- Coordinate budget meetings to review budget reports and projections with budget managers and grant managers
- Oversee Title IV-E billing process
Cash Management
- Develop and update cash flow forecasts
- Reconcile all investment accounts and manage cash flow
- Analyze and manage our reserve account
Payroll and Benefit Administration
- Oversee payroll and benefit reconciliation with the General Ledger
- Prepare and/or review financial analysis related to payroll, benefits, and retirement plans
Audit Preparation and Support
- Assist Controller in annual audit and schedule preparation / liaison with auditors.
- Assist Controller in other audits, as needed
Fundraising Accounting
- Support in all financial aspects of the organization’s fundraising efforts
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations
Tax and Regulatory Preparation and Reports
- Federal/state tax filing preparation (Form 990 and Form 990-T), including UBIT and supporting schedules
- Review and approval of regulatory reporting and all state and federal tax reporting
- Monthly Labor Statistics and Multiple worksite quarterly reports
- Annual Economic Statistic report for non-profit organizations
- Sales & Use Tax Return
- Property Tax Return
- Form 1099 filing
Management / Leadership
- Interview, select, train, and manage the performance of assigned staff; establish performance standards and professional development targets; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching for performance improvement and development including performance evaluations
- Provide day-to-day leadership and work with staff to ensure a high-performance, service-oriented work environment that supports CLC’s mission, objectives and values; promote workplace diversity, inclusion, cultural competency and a positive work environment
- Promotes a continuous improvement / learning environment and values new and innovative ways to solve complex problems
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Experience
- 10-15 years of experience in non-profit or fund accounting, including financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, cash management, auditing, financial controls, investment, retirement and payroll administration
- 5-7 years of management experience (supervising three or more staff)
- Knowledge
- Proficiency in A/R, A/P & G/L account analysis, financial statements & management reporting, reviews & approvals, variance analysis, and accounting policies/procedures development
- Advanced working knowledge of and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Highly proficient in Blackbaud Financial Edge or similar ERP system

- Strong qualitative and quantitative analytical skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and time management skills
- Ability to resolve problems independently
