Starting salary is between $19.00 to $28.00 per hour depending on experience and qualifications ($39,520 to $58, 240 annual salary), plus excellent benefits. This position is in payroll range 81-04 and a one year probationary period will be required.

This position is based at Old World Wisconsin in Eagle, WI.

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, the Accountant oversees all accounting and financial processes for Old World Wisconsin within the Division of Museums and Historic Sites of the Wisconsin Historical Society. The incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining procedures for a wide variety of fiscal activities. The primary function of this position is financial oversight and processing using the State of Wisconsin’s STAR (financial) system and the Historical Society’s point of sale system, CounterPoint. The Accountant will handle such things as cash handling, revenue processing and reconciliation, payment processing and tracking, revenue tracking and reconciliation, purchasing, and budgeting and forecasting. This position will monitor all revenue and expenditures at Old World Wisconsin in compliance with State of Wisconsin statutes, rules, policies and procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and operating budgets.


At Old World Wisconsin, the Accountant will oversee the collection of and accounting for revenue including, but not limited to, ticket sales, membership purchases, retail and food sales, special event income, grants, and gifts. This role will partner with other Accountants and/or Financial Specialists and the central Finance Team to reconcile bank accounts and perform other month-end and year-end tasks for the Division. The Accountant may also be assigned to perform certain functions for other Museums or Historic Sites.


The primary goals for this role include:


    Management of revenue cycle, including deposits and accounts receivable
  • Oversee all revenue transaction processes and activities, including proper use of CounterPoint.
  • Perform reconciliations and prepare daily and weekly revenue reports.
  • Oversee the deposit process, to receive incoming checks and cash for submission to the State Treasury. Deposit checks and cash at local bank
  • Perform month-end and year-end close processes for assigned sites in collaboration with central Finance Team and Retails staff.

    Payment Processing for Old World Wisconsin and other assigned Sites
  • Ensure timely and accurate payment of all invoices, including invoice tracking and entry into STAR or payment via p-card.
  • Ensure employees reconcile p-card purchases in a timely manner.
  • Serve as resource for basic purchasing questions from staff and liaison to Financial Services purchasing staff.
  • Set up new vendors in STAR.

    Financial Tracking and Budgeting
  • Review and analyze monthly financial reports and recommend actions to ensure alignment with budgets and goals.
  • Identify and implement methods to improve accuracy and efficiency of financial management.
  • Assist site director with budget development.

    Process management for Purchasing & Office Procedures
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for procurement and buying. Place orders and purchase goods or services, as needed for operations.
  • Understand and utilize state contracts when applicable.
  • Ensure proper procurement procedures are followed and perform simplified bids.
  • Build, maintain and improve positive relationships with vendors.

Qualifications:

A minimally qualified candidate will have:
A 2-year degree from an accredited university or college in Accounting OR equivalent accounting work experience in the following areas:
o Accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
o Cash handling, revenue processing and bank reconciliations
o Working with ERP software


In addition to minimum qualifications, a well-qualified candidate will have experience in:
o Retail Point of Sale system, such as CounterPoint
o State, government, or similar purchasing processes
o State of WI Accounting work experience
o Accounting work experience in a museum or other similar cultural or historical organization
