Job Summary:
Academic Advisor to provide individual academic advising and support to undergraduate
students in The College of Education, Health and Society (EHS). This includes academic
planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, communicating relevant
information, and some teaching.
Duties/Physical Demands:
Participating in the planning, implementation, and
assessment of programs for new, international, transfer, and prospective students. Assisting with academic intervention and outreach efforts, strategic planning, and Office of Admission
recruitment events. Teaching a first-year experience or transition course, acting as a resource for faculty and other professional advisors across the University, and serving on
committees/working groups. Other duties as assigned by the Dean, Associate Dean or Director
of Student Services.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree by date of appointment. Minimum 6 months of full-time advising experience in a university or college setting, including academic, career, study abroad, or other related areas. Experience gained during a related graduate program can apply (graduate experience is pro-rated; 1 semester of an assistantship is equivalent to 2.25 months of full-time experience).
This position is available to persons who are currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time and indefinite basis. (Persons authorized to work on such a basis include US citizens, lawful permanent residents (“green card” holders), asylees, refugees, and temporary residents under IRCA.)
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with: Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, college student personnel, psychological counseling, or related field. Understanding of student development theory; experience working with diverse student populations; understanding the purpose and advantages of a liberal arts education; excellent written and oral communication (including public speaking), organization, technological and collaborative skills; experience with tools such as: Banner, uAchieve (degree audits), Student Success Collaborative (Navigate), Oracle Business Intelligence, and Transferology.Com.
