Position Summary
The Advisor will provide career and academic advising to students within the AEFLA grant-funded Adult Literacy and Language program with the Division of Workforce and Economic Development (DWED).
Advisor duties includes, but is not limited to, the following.
Advise students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, study habits and career planning.
Collaborate with DWED staff in the development, evaluation and revision of courses/programs.
Perform administrative procedures to meet objectives set by the ABE Grant.
Plan and promote ABE Grant related activities.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. One year related professional experience.
3. Experience working with a diverse workforce and/or student body.
4. Ability to travel to various site locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Starting Salary Range
$23.00 Hour

HR will attempt to verify academic credentials upon receipt of hiring documents. If the academic credentials cannot be verified, HR will notify the faculty member that an official transcript of their highest degree must be submitted within thirty days of the faculty member's first day of employment.

- Help individuals understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their educational or vocational situations
- Prepare students for later educational experiences by encouraging them to explore learning opportunities and to persevere with challenging tasks.
- Observe and evaluate students' performance, abilities and interests using tests, records, interviews and professional sources and confer with case managers, instructors and/ or tutors on individual students' needs and progress.
- Provide students with information on such topics as division courses and/or certifications, college degree/certificate programs and admission requirements and financial aid opportunities. Refer students to programs based on interests, aptitudes or educational/workplace assessments and other eligibility criteria.
- Conduct follow-up interviews with students to determine if their needs have been met and progress measurement.
- Assess needs for assistance such as disability resource center, financial aid and/or additional remediation assistance and refer them to the appropriate services.
- Interview students to obtain information about employment history, educational background and career goals.
- Refer qualified students to employers, employment services and other providers for job training or placement.
- Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
Collaborate with DWED staff in the development, evaluation and revision of courses/programs.
- Develop curriculum and instruct students in career development techniques such as job search and application strategies, resume writing and interview skills.
- Develop, plan and coordinate student events.
- Attend professional meetings and training workshops to maintain professional competence.
- Compile and study occupational, educational and economic information to assist DWED administration in determining and carrying out objectives.
- Provide assistance to staff in duties such as teaching classes, issuing transcripts and scheduling.
Perform administrative procedures to meet objectives set by the ABE Grant.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by CSN, DWED and ABE grant and provide to accountability specialist.
- Prepare and maintain student reports
- Participate and/or serve as a proctor in student recruitment, selection, admission and assessment processes.
- Prepare reports to be submitted to DWED administration and ABE Grant Leads related to student progress and grant implementation measures.
- Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- Coordinate room assignments.
Plan and promote ABE Grant related activities.
- Conduct orientation programs
- Address community groups, instructors and staff members to explain program services
- Coordinate and represent the division at CSN, community, campus and industry events.
- Develop public relations materials and coordinate the production and dissemination of materials.
Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
2. One year related professional experience.
3. Experience working with a diverse workforce and/or student body.
4. Ability to travel to various site locations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Major, minor, or advanced degree from a regionally accredited college or university in counseling or adult education
- Two years full time advising experience at a community college.
- Knowledge of Federal and State Grant Implementation Guidelines
- Ability to analyze, prepare and generate reports/spreadsheets in a timely and efficient manner.
- Knowledge of division classes, products and services and ability to inform internal and external customers with correct contacts.
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule based on workload demands.
- Knowledge of college computer and data systems including but not limited to: EMSI, Microsoft Office Suites, Lumens Registration System, Workday (1)
