The salary range is $40,484 - $87,707 depending on education/experience plus a generous benefit plan.

About the Position

Purpose: The Elementary Behavior Interventionist works with the principal, school psychologist, and other team members to create a safe and positive learning environment. As part of a multi-tiered system of supports, the Behavior Interventionist implements proactive behavioral strategies and provides interventions for students who require additional instruction or need
behavioral crisis support.


The Behavior Interventionist works with a high level of independence and professional discretion under the general supervision of the Special Programs Office and the school’s principal. The work is governed, controlled, and evaluated by acceptable professional practice, school and district policies and regulations, provisions of Oregon TSPC, direction of the
principal, and performance standards and expectations set forth in the collective bargaining agreement.

Essential Job Functions:


School-wide Support:

  • Respond to student needs as part of the school crisis response team;
  • Facilitate team discussions using data to design school-wide supports and make changes based on needs;
  • Serve as a resource for building staff, administrators, and parents in working with students, creating a positive school climate, and helping students develop a positive self-concept;
  • Provide professional development to certified and classified staff in areas of behavior and social skills.

Student Group Support:

  • Coordinate implementation of group behavior interventions including data collection, data analysis, and training for staff, students, and families;
  • Implement targeted social skills instruction groups.

Individual Student Support:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement function based plans, track fidelity data, track student outcome data, and adjust plans accordingly to fit in classroom context;
  • Provide instruction, modeling, and support for teachers to implement student behavior supports.

Job Requirements / Qualifications


  • Experience Preferred
    • Strong understanding of multi-tiered systems of support for behavior and social-emotional learning;
    • Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities;
    • Solid understanding and experience working in a school or district that implements school-wide Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Exceptionally strong communication habits and skills;
    • Strong organizational and planning skills;
    • Deep understanding of data collection and analysis;
    • Ability to foster positive collaborative relationships with colleagues;
    • Ability to effectively supervise building classified staff in keeping with the staff member’s collective bargaining agreement;
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate with parents and external organizations to better assist students and families with all of their needs in and outside of the school setting;
    • Demonstrated ability to work successfully and positively with all students to provide them with assistance in meeting their social/emotional/behavioral needs;
    • Serve as an educational leader including the ability to plan, organize, and facilitate staff meetings, school community projects, and events.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid Oregon teaching license required (Special Education, Counseling, or LCSW preferred);
  • Successfully pass fingerprinting, criminal, Oregon Department of Education, and TSPC background checks.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills;
  • Five years demonstrated successful teaching and/or counseling experience;
  • Demonstrated experience with functional behavioral assessments, function-based behavior support plans, tracking pertinent data, and adjusting plans based on successful student outcomes.
